Car chase into Brooksville ends in crash into tree

Crashing into a tree was how a chase ended by Citrus County Sheriffâs Office deputies earlier this month. On Dec. 5, deputies were called to the Lecanto home of a vehicle owner where deputies saw Troy Elwood McLean, 46, taking the victimâs vehicle, according to his arrest report. The arresting deputy reported that McLean was the only person in the stolen vehicle and when deputies approached McLean he sped off. Deputies gave chase and followed McLean to Brooksville in Hernando County where he tried to leave the road, but instead crashed into a tree with the stolen vehicle, according to the arrest report.

Resentencing dates set in John Campbell s 2010 murder of father

After being postponed by COVID-19 and arguments over punishments, another round of resentencing dates was scheduled for John William Campbell to decide his fate for killing his father with a hatchet just over 10 years ago inside his Inverness home. During Campbellâs hearing Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020, Citrus County Circuit Court Judge Richard âRicâ Howard set June 9-11 as when heâll hear lawyers mitigate and intensify the 47-year-oldâs crime. Howard alone will then rule to either order Campbell back to death row or sentence him to a lifetime of incarceration.Â Campbell phoned into court Wednesday from Floridaâs Union Correction Institute in Raiford.Â
