THE parents of a baby who was born at just 26 weeks old has thanked the hospital staff for caring for their little miracle. Melissa and Ben Kavanagh’s baby daughter Grace was born at South Lakes Birth Centre in Barrow 14 weeks short of the full gestation period. The Askam parents, who already had a son George, described the experience as ‘very scary’ but praised the unit for their outstanding care. Mrs Kavanagh said: “Having a baby at 26 weeks is very scary and as a family we wanted to be able to give something back to our local unit. The birth centre helped us immensely on our journey both before and after Grace was born.”
