In a new letter, a DC Metropolitan police officer expresses his naked grief and trauma after being “beaten with fists, metal objects, stripped of my issued badge, radio and ammunition magazine and electrocuted numerous times with a Taser” during the Capitol attack on January 6.
But the emotional crescendo of officer Michael Fanone’s open letter to lawmakers comes towards the end, as he’s describing the lingering psychological damage that makes him feel like his life stalled out on January 7.

WASHINGTON â Rep. Elise M. Stefanik is on the path to move up in Washington after securing key endorsements in a bid to take over as chair of the House Republican Conference, the No. 3 spot in House Republican leadership.
Rep. Stefanik, R-Schuylerville, was endorsed for the position by former President Donald J. Trump in a Wednesday morning statement, which came shortly after the No. 2 House Republican, Minority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., also officially endorsed her.
Rep. Stefanik has reportedly been calling around to other GOP legislators to win their support, as current House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., loses support over her ongoing criticism of former President Trump, his falsehoods about the 2020 election and his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riots. Rep. Stefanik and her staff declined to comment for this story.
Stefanik stresses embrace of Trump amid Cheney fallout: ‘We are one team’
Rep. Elise Stefanik, who appears on track to replace Rep. Liz Cheney as House GOP conference chair, stressed an embrace of former President Donald Trump and a message of unity for the Republican Party even as she faces attacks from one conservative group that she is insufficiently conservative.
“My vision is to run with support from the President and his coalition of voters,” Stefanik said, a reference to Trump, when asked in an interview with Steve Bannon on his radio show Thursday what her vision is for GOP victory in the 2022 midterm elections.
