Supporting teachers
Finally, a headline I can support (âHonoring those who teach,â May 6), but the article didnât go far enough. Of course we all have teachers we still revere, and that makes sweet copy, but letâs think of ways we can honor those in these unprecedented trenches and especially the novices among them. Beginning and veteran teachers alike are leaving the profession in droves.
What can we do? Support bills now in the legislature to return two elements that should never have been eliminated and improve another:
HB 475: âRestore Masterâs Pay for Teachers & ISP.â Why should the pay increases for advanced degrees be returned? Teaching full-time while earning degrees to increase their knowledge deserves a step increase!

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said he has officially scheduled a vote for Wednesday to oust House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) from her post, soon after he endorsed Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) for the No. 3 leadership spot.
Cheney, in recent weeks, has come under the crosshairs of top House Republican leaders
after she continued to criticize former President Donald Trump while questioning Republicans’ messaging and strategy to court voters.
McCarthy and other Republicans, including House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), have said Cheney’s comments to the media have put the Republican Party off-message as the GOP is trying to unify to win back the House in 2022. Cheney also voted to impeach Trump during his second impeachment trial, drawing the ire of Trump as well as his large supporter base within the party. Some Republicans have accused her of capitulating to the Democratic Party.
