By CORY SHAFFER | cleveland.com | Published: May 13, 2021 CLEVELAND, Ohio A New Year’s Eve 2018 triple slaying in which a U.S. Army soldier is charged with murder began when a man attacked the soldier’s cousin, a prosecutor said during opening statements delivered Wednesday. When Tevin Biles-Thomas and his cousin Devaughn Gibson arrived at a party at an AirBnB rental, someone immediately grabbed Gibson by his shirt collar and pushed him up against the refrigerator, sparking a firefight that left three people, including Gibson, dead. Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Gregory Mussman told jurors that Biles-Thomas was the first to pull his gun and the first to open fire on DelVaunte Johnson and Toshaun Banks, ultimately killing them both. Johnson returned fire in self-defense before he was killed and shot and killed Gibson, Mussman said.

Cleveland, OH - Acting U.S. Attorney Bridget M. Brennan announced that 43-year-old Darryl Borden, of Cleveland, pleaded guilty in federal court today to being a felon in possession of a firearm after Borden shot a Cleveland Police Officer responding to a call for help last July.
“Borden ambushed two Cleveland Police Officers who were simply trying to do their job and assist a member of the community,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Bridget M. Brennan. “During Police Week, a time where we celebrate the accomplishments of law enforcement and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, it is important to remember that situations like this are all too common, and our police officers and other law enforcement regularly risk their lives to protect and assist the communities they serve.”
