Dikko joined the Nigerian Customs Service in 1988. Throughout this time, he served at various customs commands, such as Seme Border, Tincan Island Port, Apapa, all in Lagos; Imo Command, Kaduna Command, Investigation and Inspection Headquarters, Abuja, before he was appointed as Comptroller-General in 2009.
Yar’Adua Appointed Dikko and Jonathan worked with him all through
The late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua was the one who appointed him the number one customs officer in the country. When Yar’Adua died in 2010, Goodluck Jonathan, his then deputy, made some changes in the government but he did not remove Dikko from office.

The federal government has announced the engagement of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to checkmate any fraud in its ongoing Social Investment Programmes across the country.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, unveiled this to journalists Thursday in Katsina during the training of 117 independent monitors at the state Local Government Service Commission.
The minister, represented by the Assistant Director, ICT in the ministry, Mr Aminu Tukur, said any beneficiary of the social intervention programmes found violating the rules of engagement would be handed over to the anti-craft agencies for investigation and prosecution.
Ex-Customs CG, Abduallhi Dikko laid to rest in Abuja
Mr Dikko died on Thursday at the age of 60 after a protracted illness.
The burial was attended prominent Nigerians and other sympathisers, who joined in the prayer for the repose of his soul. Mr Dikko has been having corruption charges with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, as well as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences.

The former Customs boss is survived by one wife and three children –two sons and a daughter.
He attended Government College, Kaduna in 1974 where he obtained the West African Senior School Certificate Examination in 1980.
