A 70-year-old man was driving a white Nissan Qashqai SUV when it crashed head-on into a tree at Pacific Paradise on the Sunshine Coast at 7am on Easter Sunday.

Picture: Scott Sawyer Residents rushed out to help and firefighters used the jaws of life to cut the occupants free, in a desperate bid to save their lives. The pair was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital but the man died shortly after the crash. Senior Sergeant Edwards said the woman, 69, died about 10pm on Sunday. He said the man, who was the driver, had run a well-known building company. More to come.

Police believe the crash that killed a Sunshine Coast couple on Easter Sunday might have been a murder-suicide committed by the male driver when he drove into a tree.
The 2016 white Nissan Qashqai SUV left the road and crashed into a tree, trapping the 68-year-old woman and her 69-year-old husband in the wreckage.
The couple were freed and rushed to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where the man died on Sunday and his wife died overnight.

Local police said officers discovered a suicide note in the car and at a home
But Mr Makara s brother said he might have had a heart attack at the wheel
