Though most of us don’t give it any thought until a storm knocks it out of commission, our electrical grid is getting more attention lately, as we see in “Prepare grid now to power EVs” and “National Grid has eye on solar,” both April 10.
Both these articles show the importance of coordinated forethought. Home care workers, their advocates and several New York state senators gathered virtually Wednesday to denounce Governor Andrew Cuomo for blocking the Fair Pay for Home Care Act in the new state budget. A New York congressman who joined the virtual press conference says federal help could be on the way.

“I have to work four jobs to be able to pay all of my bills. The cost of living is so high here in New York. My rent is $1,500 a month. And that’s about how much it costs just to live somewhere decent in New York,” Person says. “My transportation is $135 a month for the metro card. The phone and cable are over $200 a month, health care insurance over $100 a month, and food, forget about it.”

Editorial: Not the time to burn
It’s pretty dry out there so dry that a forecast of rain early this week dried up.
National Weather Service meteorologists in Burlington, Vermont, still say our area might get rain Wednesday through Friday possibly mixed with snow Friday but in a tweet Monday they said it probably won’t put much of a dent in the dry conditions.
Our local volunteer fire departments have already responded to several wildfires.
And here we wondered a month ago about floods, since we hadn’t had thaws this winter to shrink the snowpack. So much for that.
