NJ gun laws: Phil Murphy gun control push on in New Jersey

Gov. Phil Murphy on Thursday pushed for new gun laws to solidify New Jersey s status as one of the most restrictive in the nation for firearms.  Murphy presented his plan as perhaps the most sweeping gun violence prevention package in the history of our nation, but in reality many of the measures have stalled in the Legislature, some for years. The governor s office said it is significant, however, that he announced the measures with legislative leaders, indicating support to move them forward. Kevin McArdle, a spokesman for Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, D-Middlesex, said: The speaker is appalled by the continued incidents of gun violence throughout this nation. He will thoroughly review today’s proposed legislation that could help stem this tide of senseless violence.”
