Federal Liberal MP Andrew Laming threatens 10 MPs and journalists with legal action

Advertisement Federal Liberal MP Andrew Laming has threatened defamation action against at least ten journalists and politicians and is suing ABC journalist Louise Milligan, over tweets and comments that alleged he had taken an “upskirting” photo of a woman who was bending over. At least one person, News Corp reporter Eliza Barr, has reimbursed Dr Laming for his legal costs as well as issuing an apology on Twitter after receiving a defamation concerns notice from his lawyer Rebekah Giles. Ms Giles said Barr had paid $1,500 but it is unclear whether other journalists and politicians have also made payments to Dr Laming. Barr declined to comment.

Women in the Liberal Party get what is left over : Alan Jones

Women in the Liberal Party ‘get what is left over’: Alan Jones03/05/2021|3min Sky News host Alan Jones says it is clear the Liberal Party has now “tied themselves in knots” over equal opportunities for women after four prominent Liberal women were either over-looked or shafted by their own party. Mr Jones said no woman should be “rejected for the highest position anywhere” on the basis of gender, but nor should they be “preferred because she is a woman”. Former NSW Premier Nick Greiner was recently appointed Consul-General to New York which forced him to leave his post as federal president of the Liberal Party.

Great opportunity to parachute Amanda Stoker into House of Representatives

Great opportunity to ‘parachute’ Amanda Stoker into House of Representatives03/05/2021|8min Sky News host Peter Gleeson says there is now a “great opportunity” to parachute Assistant Attorney General Amanda Stoker into the House of Representatives. Senator Stoker lost her bid for the top position on the Senate ticket to fellow Senator James McGrath and has now been relegated to the usually unwinnable third spot. Mr Gleeson said there was an opportunity for Senator Stoker to be moved to the seat of Bowman where there will likely be a pre-selection battle. “If she wants to get ahead in life, she needs to be in the House of Representatives rather than being a Senator,” he said.

Absolutely bizarre for Stoker to be given third spot on Senate ticket

Absolutely bizarre for Stoker to be given third spot on Senate ticket02/05/2021|4min Sky News host Rita Panahi says it’s an appalling own goal from the Liberals for allowing Amanda Stoker to slide to number three on the party’s Senate ticket in Queensland. Senator James McGrath was given the number one spot on the LNP’s Senate ticket ahead of the next federal election, who was followed by Nationals Senator Matt Canavan. Ms Stoker, who was recently promoted in Cabinet, was given third place on the ticket which makes it more difficult to secure re-election. “They should have backed in Amanda Stoker, it shouldn’t have been a question mark whether a minister and someone as well-credentialed as her should have to fight and then be demoted to number three where she’s not guaranteed a cent,” Ms Panahi said.
