PANAMA CITY The Florida Department of Health in Bay County has issued an advisory for parts of St. Andrew Bay because of a raw sewage release.
According to a news release from DOH-Bay officials, about 13,500 gallons of raw sewage was released following an equipment failure at 301 Bunkers Cove Road in Panama City. The raw sewage flowed into a storm drain, which empties into St. Andrew Bay.
Health department officials advise against swimming in St. Andrew Bay from Bunkers Point to 528 Bunkers Cove Road until further notice.
Sewage contamination of water can expose swimmers to intestinal viruses, bacteria and parasites, and can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Infection also is possible through open cuts and wounds that come in contact with the polluted water, according to the release.
According to a sheriff’s office press release, the incident occurred at approximately 4:47 p.m. nearby the Government Center on 11th Street. The investigator went to the gazebo area at the Government Center to make contact with the Barrett, who is believed involved in a grand theft case in Callaway. It is believed Barrett took over $5,000 in valuables from a home in Callaway.
The investigator had been looking for Barrett for a few days and developed information that he was in the area of the gazebo, near a laundromat next to the Government Center.
The press release states the investigator found Barrett and tried to arrest him. However, Barrett resisted, began to fight and took possession of the investigator’s firearm, using it to strike his face.
