A VICIOUS thug who remorselessly attacked his former partner in her own home has had his jail sentence increased. John Berry, 32, was in a relationship with the victim and after his release from prison on a separate charge he started visiting his former partner at her home in Dunmow. On 24 July, 2017, Berry broke into his partner’s home and attacked her, strangling her, repeatedly striking her body and head. During the attack she sustained seven facial fractures, resulting in a broken cheek and jawbone. Her spleen was also ruptured. The victim’s injuries were similar to those usually found to be as a result of a high-speed car collision.

A second teenager has been charged with murder after a man died two days after being hit a car.
Neil Darnell, 50, from Waltham Abbey, died following a collision in Farm Hill Road in the Essex town, at about 10:00 BST on 16 April.
A 17-year-old boy from Hertford was arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday, Essex Police said.
Another boy, 17, from Cheshunt, also charged with murder appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court on Tuesday.
In a statement, Mr Darnell s family said he was a genuine force of life with a heart of gold , who would always go out of his way to help others .
