Racial Disparities Persist After Marijuana Decriminalization

But a new VPM analysis of court records since the policy went into effect shows Black individuals in Virginia are still nearly four times more likely than white people to face summons over marijuana possession despite similar usage rates. Around 50% of people logged for marijuana possession offenses that occured in Virginia from July 1, 2020 through Jan. 11, 2021 were African Americans. Roughly 20% of the state’s population is Black.

Tykirah Lashae Reid, 20, is accused of abducting Jiraiya Cherry from his Newport News family home on the morning of February 4. Family members reported him missing around 10:20 a.m. The infant s uncle was at the family home in the 13000 block of Preakness Drive when the boy was abducted. He told police he was babysitting the infant and his 4-year-old niece when a woman hired by the baby s parents came to the house to assist him.

(WWBT) - Police say human remains that were found in Pocahontas State Park are those of a Henrico man who was reported missing in 2020. Police responded to the park Wednesday, January 20, for a report that human remains were discovered. The remains were identified as John L. Fergusson, 23, of Henrico County by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
