Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) is reportedly talking to Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) and is willing to search out “common ground” for gun control.
Politiconoted Cornyn was not comfortable supporting the current universal background check gun control proposals Democrats have put forward but could be open to more narrow offers.
Cornyn mentioned having “quiet conversations” with Murphy for the purposes of “[finding] common ground.”
Murphy also reached out to Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN).
Politico observed Braun “said that he’d be open to a narrower attempt, but not the kind of comprehensive legislation Democrats want.”
WAVE 3 TV indicated Braun came out in favor of “better background checks” and a red flag law in August 2019. His support for the gun control measures came after Indiana adopted a red flag law at the state level.

President Joe Biden reacted to the Thursday night FedEx attack that killed eight people by recalling his April 8, 2021, Rose Garden gun control push and saying, “We must act.”
Breitbart News reported the mass shooting left eight innocents dead. Police indicated the suspected gunman allegedly took his own life after the eight were killed.
Biden released a statement Friday which said, in part:
Gun violence is an epidemic in America. But we should not accept it. We must act.
Last week, I called on the Justice Department to better protect Americans from gun violence. I also urged Congress to hear the call of the American people – including the vast majority of gun owners – to enact commonsense gun violence prevention legislation, like universal background checks and a ban of weapons of war and high-capacity magazines.
Biden: Mass Shootings Occur Every Day (if You Add Up Other Shootings)
16 Apr 2021
While answering a reporter’s question on gun control in light of the FedEx attack, President Joe Biden suggested there is a mass shooting every day, if you add up other shootings.
Biden said, “Every single day there’s a mass shooting in the United States if you count all those who are killed out on the streets of our cities and our rural areas.”
He went on to claim that gun owners support universal background checks and suggested the “majority” of gun owners “think we should not be selling ‘assault weapons. ”
Democrats Introduce Ban on Sale, Possession of Firearm Suppressors
Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) introduced legislation on Wednesday to ban the sale and possession of firearm suppressors.
His legislation, the Help Empower Americans to Respond (HEAR) Act, is co-sponsored by Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), among others.
It would ban the importation, sale, manufacture, transfer, and possession of firearm suppressors.
Menendez commented on the legislation, saying:
Gun silencers are dangerous devices with one purpose and one purpose only – to muffle the sound of gunfire from unsuspecting victims. The sound of gunshots is what signals you to run, hide, take cover, call the police and help others save themselves; however, this is nearly impossible when a gun silencer is used. That is why we must pass the HEAR Act, commonsense legislation that will prevent armed assailants from using these deadly devices to make it easier to shoot and
