Cathedral City brothers arrested on suspicion of kidnapping

Staff and wire reports Two Cathedral City brothers accused of kidnapping a man and holding him against his will were arrested Tuesday and jailed.   Carlos Jose Espinoza, 30, and Eduardo Luis Espinoza, 32, both of Cathedral City, were arrested Tuesday and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio. They were charged with kidnapping, torture, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon and terrorist threats.  Police dispatchers received a 911 call Tuesday from a man who said he had been beaten, zip-tied and held against his will for days, according to the Cathedral City Police Department, which did not release the name of the alleged victim, who was described only as a 36-year-old Cathedral City resident.

Man accused of joining teenager in Thermal drive-by shooting A young man accused of joining a teenager in carrying out a drive-by shooting in Thermal was in custody Wednesday in lieu of $1 million bail. Jorge Dominguez, 21, of Indio was arrested Tuesday night and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center on suspicion of attempted murder, shooting at an inhabited building and conspiracy. Deputies were sent about 7:50 p.m. to a house in the 83-100 block of Alvarado Avenue on a shooting report, according to the Riverside County Sheriff s Department. Sgt. Mariano Matos III said people inside the home reported the residence was fired upon nobody was hurt and said they saw a black Chevrolet Silverado speed away from the scene. They reported that the passenger fired the shots, Matos said.

The two other men Luis Jose Leyva Jr., 32, and Noe Millan Mora, 30, both of Desert Hot Springs were previously arrested and charged in the case. Leyva pleaded not guilty in March to 13 felony charges, including six counts of robbery and two counts each of assault with a semi-automatic firearm and assault with a gun. He also faces gun and great bodily injury sentence- enhancing allegations. Mora pleaded not guilty in April to four counts of robbery and sentence-enhancing allegations of being armed with an AK-47 during the commission of a robbery. Sheriff s officials did not specify how they pinpointed the group as suspects in the crime.

City News Service A onetime NCAA champion wrestler convicted of beating up one woman and sexually assaulting another at his Coachella Valley ranch is seeking release from jail pending appeal, prosecutors said Friday. Wayne Eric Boyd, 74, of Sky Valley was sentenced to two years in state prison earlier this month, and remains in county custody at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio pending transport to a state facility. He is slated to return to the Larson Justice Center in Indio on May 7, where his lawyers are expected to argue he should be granted bail while they navigate the appeals process in a quest to overturn his conviction.
