GJSD budget vote set | News, Sports, Jobs

May 1, 2021 JOHNSTOWN The Greater Johnstown School District residents can vote on the 2021-2022 school budget and board of education elections from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 18, in the lobby of the Johnstown Junior-Senior High School. Face masks must be worn and social distancing guidelines observed in school buildings. The GJSD residents who want to cast a ballot must be registered voters. For GJSD residents not currently registered, voter registration will be offered from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the lobby of the junior-senior high school auditorium. Johnstown school board creates secretary position | News, Sports, Jobs

manich@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN The Greater Johnstown School District Board of Education recently approved creation of a 12-month school secretary position. In related personnel action, the board approved the probationary appointment of Justine Lewis as administrative assistant 12 months per year. The salary for the position is $37,375 annually, retroactive to Jan. 19. The board temporarily amended the appointment of teacher aide Amber Rumrill, effective Feb. 12. “This is a change from five hours a day to seven hours a day,” noted board President Christopher Tallon. The position runs through June 30, and the action is pursuant to the Civil Service Employees Association collective bargaining agreement.

GJSD: All students need internet access | News, Sports, Jobs

manich@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN The Greater Johnstown School District like other school systems is working hard on trying to get more students connected to the internet for remote learning purposes. Superintendent William Crankshaw, in his recent report to the Board of Education, said 8 percent of the Johnstown students don’t have internet connectivity. The connections are important in the learning process during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. He said instruction has been “strong,” but not always coordinated. In conjunction with the fight against COVID, Crankshaw reported that district staff and faculty are “actively making appointments” for COVID vaccinations The superintendent said he already had his first of two shots.
