A councillor has explained how a former environmental centre would have been too difficult to turn into a leisure facility after selling the building to an international company.

At a virtual Swaffham Town Council meeting on January 13 Breckland Council s executive member for contracts and assets, Paul Hewett, felt as if he owed it to the town s mayor and members of STC to explain the recent decision to sell the Green Britain Centre (GBC) to an unnamed business last week.

A town councillor who admitted to breaking coronavirus rules by visiting a high street following a positive test has refused to resign – despite calls do so by several members of the public.

The independent councillor released a statement on January 7 apologising to residents and saying that she thought she could exercise once a day while in isolation .
At a Swaffham Town Council meeting held over Zoom on January 13, 2021, the ex-Conservative councillor apologised to her colleagues before stating she would not resign.

A district councillor has explained why plans for a leisure centre at a former eco centre were not feasible.
Speaking during this weekâs Swaffham Town Council meeting, Brecklandâs executive member for contracts and assets, Paul Hewett, said it would have been difficult to convert the Green Britain Centre into a sport and leisure provision.
He said the whole heating and cooling system would have had to be changed, as well as the glazing if the town councilâs desired land swap had gone ahead.
