WHMI 93 5 Local News : Howell SOS Branch Closed After COVID Exposure

April 8, 2021 By Jon King / jking@whmi.com Two Michigan Secretary of State branch offices, including the one that serves Livingston County, have been closed due to reported COVID exposures. The branch located on Grand River in Genoa Township is closed, as is the Michigan Avenue branch in Lansing. Tracy Wimmer, the Director of Media Relations for the Michigan Secretary of State, tells WHMI that both offices were ordered closed due to a COVID exposure. Wimmer says all customers with existing appointments were notified and their appointments will be honored at nearby branches, and those who may have been exposed were already contacted by their respective county health departments to notify them of the potential for exposure. She said that any further questions should be directed to the appropriate county health department.

WHMI 93 5 Local News : Over-Capacity Attendance Forces Genoa Township To Adjourn Meeting

April 6, 2021 By Mike Kruzman & Jon King / news@whmi.com Residents against a proposed chapel and sanctuary space in Genoa Township showed up en masse Monday night, causing the adjournment of the meeting due to pandemic restrictions. With a space allowing for 18 members of the public in the Genoa Township Hall, and roughly 3 times that number showing up for the meeting, the Board of Trustees was forced to call off their meeting before they could conduct business. Under current health department orders, capacity is limited to 50% of normal room capacity, but social distance space must still be accounted for. Supervisor Bill Rogers said he was shocked when he pulled out the measuring tape and started distancing chairs to find that so few could fit in their space.

Catholic Healthcare International chapel proposal headed to Genoa Township Board meeting

A controversial proposal to build a chapel on Chilson Road in Genoa Township is heading to the township s Board of Trustees. Catholic Healthcare International, a Missouri-based organization, submitted plans to the township in February to build a 6,090 square-foot church, along with some outdoor statues on a wooded parcel of land at 3280 Chilson Road. The plan narrowly passed through the Planning Commission with a 4-3 vote on March 8. The organization wants to recreate St. Padre Pio s chapel in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy. CHI is promising a peaceful pilgrimage site in Genoa Township with a bronze statue, an outdoor grotto, Stations of the Cross and walking trails throughout the property.
