NEW ULM New Ulm High School (NUHS) and Minnesota Valley Lutheran (MVL) High School advanced one team each to the State Knowledge Bowl Tournament to be held online in April.

Tragedy hits home
THUMBS DOWN: News of a mass shooting anywhere is hard to hear. When one occurs in your home state, it is harder still. But to hear that the Allina clinic shooting in Buffalo took the life of someone from here, someone lots of people knew, a friend, a family member it’s the hardest of all.
To the family of Lindsay Overbay, the 37-year-old mother of two who died as she worked as a medical assistant at the clinic, we can only offer our heartfelt grief and condolences. There’s little we can say except that Lindsay touched the lives of many who remember her with love.

NEW ULM Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School (MVLHS) senior Jonah Kramer of Gibbon is a finalist in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Competition (NMSC). NMSC serves to recognize high school seniors for their academic achievements. In February, some 15,000 semifinalists, including Kramer, were notified that they have advanced to finalist standing.
According to the NMSC website, all winners of Merit Scholarship awards are chosen from the finalist group based on their abilities, skills and accomplishments. NMSC evaluates the finalist’s academic record, information about the school’s curriculum and grading system, PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index score, the high school official’s written recommendation, information about the student’s activities and leadership and the finalist’s essay.
