Army foils smuggling, infiltration attempt at northern border

AMMAN The Northern Military Zone, in coordination with the concerned agencies, during the past 48 hours foiled an attempt to smuggle a large amount of narcotics from Syria into the Kingdom, a source at the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) said on Saturday.
The source said that the army personnel applied the rules of engagement, which led to the retreat of smugglers into Syrian territories, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Upon searching the area, the personnel found 746,000 Captagon pills, 29,529 Galica pills and 46,166 other narcotic pills that were all referred to the concerned agencies.
King attends Arab Intelligence Forum

AMMAN His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, on Wednesday attended the second round of the Arab Intelligence Forum, hosted by the General Intelligence Department (GID) in Aqaba, with the participation of HRH Crown Prince Hussein.
Welcoming the heads and representatives of Arab intelligence services via teleconference, King Abdullah underscored the importance of the forum as a framework for institutionalising joint Arab action and as a step to bolster Arab intelligence cooperation, according to a Royal Court statement.
His Majesty emphasised the need to counter the threats facing the Arab world, especially terrorism and extremism, stressing the need to address global crises and developments, as well as the social, economic, and security implications of the COVID-19 pandemic.
JAF bolsters Border Guard units

AMMAN Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti on Wednesday met with a unit of the Eastern Military Region, in the presence of a number of senior officers of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
According to the directives of Huneiti, JAF have bolstered the Border Guard units on the northern and eastern fronts of the Kingdom with special forces, a rapid reaction force, and Royal Jordanian Air Force aircrafts, Petra reported.
During his visit, he reaffirmed that the JAF will firmly deal with any attempt to threaten the Kingdom s borders and its national security. Huneiti was briefed about the efforts exerted to prevent infiltration and smuggling occurring at the Kingdom’s border fronts, in cooperation with the various security services.
