JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Duval County music teacher Levis Dasher died May 23 at Baptist Medical Center South in Jacksonville after a weeks-long battle with COVID-19-related complications.
The 57-year-old educator taught music and directed the band at Westview K-8 in the Duval County Public Schools district.
“He was just a staple here at our school,” Dasher’s colleague Brittiany Smalls said. “You just have no idea how much of a loss it is to not have somebody that was so important, so valuable.”

Baptist Health has five hospitals: Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, Baptist Medical Center South, Baptist Medical Center Beaches, Baptist Medical Center Nassau and Wolfson Children s Hospital, as well as four satellite emergency centers, 55 primary care offices, about 13,000 team members and 1,762 physicians.
Because of Mayo s track record at Baptist and working for other health systems, the board of directors unanimously bypassed the usual nationwide search to find McClung s successor.

Police say Tiny Merle Holte died at Troy Regional Medical Center.
Investigators say Holte was driving a car that was involved in a wreck with another car at around 1:07 p.m. Tuesday. A passenger in her car was taken to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery in critical condition.
A passenger in the other car was taken to Troy Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the wreck blocked all lanes on U.S. 231. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
