SASSA Latest News: Criminals bust with SASSA cards and cash
The police have warned the public not to hand their SASSA or bank cards to creditors when taking out a loan.
Several South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) suspects were arrested on the Bluff in Durban after the police received a tip off that they were at an ATM attempting to withdraw cash.
SAPS spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said that police had received information on the night of Thursday 6 May that a group of suspects who were in possession of multiple SASSA cards had been spotted in the suburb.
“The police officers from Brighton Beach SAPS received information about a group of suspects who were in possession of multiple SASSA cards, various bank cards and were busy withdrawing money from an ATM,” Mbele said.

Five more people - four of whom are family members of Durban businessman Thoshan Panday - have been formally charged in connection with the 2010 Soccer World Cup police accommodation graft case.

Panday, KZN s former police commissioner, Mmamonnye Ngobeni, former police officer s, Navin Madhoe and Ashwin Narainpershad are facing charges of fraud and corruption linked to the multi-million rand accommodation tender.
The five new accused appeared in the Durban Magistrate s Court on Friday.
Panday s wife, Privisha Panday, his 70-year-old mother, Avenda Panday, his sister, Kajal Ishwarkumar, brother-in-law Seveesh Ishwarkumar and his former assistant, Tasleem Rahiman looked anxious as they appeared in court 10.
Arvenda Panday, the 69-year-old mother of criminally charged uMhlanga businessman Thoshan Panday, looked frail as she made her first appearance in the Durban Magistrates’ Court on Friday on graft charges relating to the R60-million 2010 Soccer World Cup police accommodation scandal.
The accused number five’s head was draped in a light scarf, coiled at her neck over a loose-fitting blouse, but even that could not disguise her rapid breathing as she tried unsuccessfully, almost coyly, to avert her eyes from the media.
Her physical appearance was in striking contrast to that of Thoshan’s wife – accused number six, 45-year-old Privisha Panday – who betrayed no emotion. She seemed, at least for now, perfectly in control.

Wentworth teen shot dead in drug den

DURBAN - A WENTWORTH man who had been playing with a gun, allegedly pulling the trigger every now and then, is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday for the murder of 17-year-old Breyden Rai.
Breyden sustained a gunshot wound to the back of his head. Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele confirmed the arrest and court appearance.
She said that on Friday Rai had been sitting on the balcony of a Woodville Road, Wentworth, property where drugs were allegedly sold.
“One of the men walked down the stairs to apparently sell drugs to a customer. While downstairs, a gunshot was heard from the balcony.
