Two alleged muggers were killed in a gunfight with detectives in Dhaka s Khilkhet area early today.
The deceased were identified as Enamul, 30, and Md Rasel, 28.
The incident took place around 2:30am when a DB team along with local police chased a group of muggers in an auto-rickshaw, Mashiur Rahman, deputy commissioner of (DB-Gulshan) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said.
The DC said they have been setting up several checkpoints at Khilkhet area to ensure security for people returning to Dhaka as incidents of mugging posing as fellow passengers in auto-rickshaw and microbus have led to killing and injuring several people before Eid.

The incident occurred in the Khilkhet area around 2:45 am on Tuesday, police said.
The dead have been identified as Russel, 30, and Yamin, 36. They were implicated in several cases of robbery, murder and drug trafficking, police said.
A joint team of officers from Khilkhet Police Station clashed with a group of armed robbers who were in an autorickshaw, said Moshiur Rahman, deputy commissioner of the Gulshan division of detective police.
The police seized the autorickshaw and arrested two robbers at the end of the gunfight.
