Car show and swap meet set for this weekend
The Chicken House Flea Market and 4 Elite Auto Sales & Detailing are hosting a car show and swap meet through Sunday at the flea market, 8080 Highway 377 South.
The swap meet will be all three days. The car show will only be on Saturday and Sunday.
They are offering a free T-shirt and dash plaque with car show registration. The show will be decided by spectator voting.
In addition, there will be a 50/50 drawing benefitting Foster s Home for Children, along with door prizes and a poker run. Must be present to win prizes.
Counseling lights the future for Tarleton commencement speaker

STEPHENVILLE You could say Lauren Penner has a diverse background. It’s this variety of experiences that guided her back to Tarleton State University and a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling.
Before collecting her diploma Saturday, she will deliver the 4 p.m. commencement address for her graduate school peers.
As a Tarleton undergrad, Lauren earned a bachelor’s degree in business with a minor in psychology. She was active in Delta Mu Delta honor society for business and Psi Chi honor society for psychology.
She also performed in a few recitals as a piano student under Dr. Leslie Spotz. (“It was a wonderful experience to do something completely unrelated to my majors.”)
Tarleton honors 2021 Crystal Apple Society inductees

STEPHENVILLE Tarleton State University recognized six distinguished educators at a recent virtual induction into the Crystal Apple Society.
This year’s honorees are Dr. Randall Bowden, former department head and professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Technology; Ashlee Reed, assistant principal at Alvarado’s North Elementary School; Amy McKay, director of Tarleton’s Revive employee wellness program; Dr. Leslie Leach, associate dean of Faculty Affairs and Development at the university’s Center for Educational Excellence; Dr. Cynthia McPherson, former assistant professor and Graduate Director of English and Languages; and Brandy Musick, head of Stephenville High School’s science department.
Honoring the Fallen: Erath County Peace Officers Memorial pays respects to those who died in the line of duty

Law enforcement officials from agencies across Erath County gathered with members of the community on Tuesday to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
The Erath County Peace Officers Memorial united officers from the Stephenville Police Department, Erath County Sheriff s Office, Tarleton State University Police Department and Dublin Police Department for a somber goal remembering fallen heroes. May God bless their souls and may we always remember these fallen heroes and may we always take care of their families, said Stephenville Police Chief Dan Harris Jr.

Weatherford ISD Monday announced the naming of two new elementary principals as well as a new safety and security director. Dr. Marlyn Young was named principal of the Austin Elementary campus, April Leppla was named principal for the Wright Elementary campus and James Saint was named Director of Safety and Security.
Young earned an Associate of Arts degree from Texas College, a Bachelor of Science in Education from McMurry University, a Masterâs in Educational Administration and Supervision. She earned Doctor of Education degree in Special Education from Northcentral University,
She began her career in education in 1995 as a teacher in the Midland ISD and also taught for Sonora ISD. She later served as a dyslexic interventionist for Ector County ISD, where she also held positions as an assistant principal and principal. She comes to Weatherford ISD from Abilene ISD, where she held positions as assistant principal and student achievement program director.
