AUSTIN, Texas - An Austin charter school and a Houston-based lab have teamed up to help track COVID-19 in the community.
For the past month, Austin Achieve Public Schools has conducted testing on their northeast campus. They saw the need when they realized their proximity to zip codes with higher COVID-19 rates.
We saw a migrating purple color on the dashboard beginning to move towards areas where our families lived, and that was a grave concern, said Ricardo Chavana, front office coordinator for the elementary school. We thought, what can we do about this?

While the rush to get a COVID-19 vaccination is on throughout the country, its still important to get tested first if you start to feel symptoms of COVID or if you ve come into close contact with someone who had it.
We received information from the City Of Tyler and Smith County Emergency Management about on going FREE COVID testing in Tyler going on now through February 28th.
The Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM) and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) are providing free walk-up COVID-19 testing opportunities for anyone with or without COVID-19 symptoms at New Life Community Church, located at 1201 NNW Loop 323 in Tyler across from Tyler High School.
The first does of COVID-19 vaccine were administered Tuesday at Kaufman Countyâs new vaccination hub at the TVCC Health Sciences Center in Terrell.

The mission began in Austin as Texas Department of Emergency Management officials loaded a cooler containing 100 doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 Vaccine on a Texas Department of Public Safety Airbus AS350 helicopter. Half an hour later Texas DPS Pilot Mike Pena was circling the Cuero City Park and adjacent airport looking for a clear place to land.
At the gates to the Cuero Municipal Park Clubhouse, a steady stream of cars had begun lining up, each containing a preselected recipient of the 100 doses allocated for the community. Among those onsite to greet the incoming residents was Cuero City Mayor, Sara Post-Meyer who explained the demand for the vaccine in her city.
The Smithville Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors held its annual retreat “virtually” this year on Saturday. The board discussed the 2020 year and all of the many projects and programs the chamber completed or launched.
