Wichita Falls Council sign off on goals for next two years Wichita Falls City Councilors made short work of a short agenda when they met Tuesday. Councilors signed off on a 2021 Strategic Planning Workshop Report and directed city staff to find ways to implement the plans outlined in the March meeting. Councilors at that classroom session set five goals for the next two years: Accelerate Economic Growth The city paid the consultant who led the session $16,000. Also at Monday’s meeting councilors: Awarded a bid to Marrs Patriot Construction on a $221,000 project for renovation of the reception area of the Women, Infant and Children facility at the Wichita Falls City-County Health Department. The project will be funded through a grant from the Texas Department of State Health Service.

37% of Hays County residents fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Monday, May 3, 2021 Hays County continues to inch closer to 100,000 residents who’ve received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while nearly 37% of residents are fully vaccinated.  According to the Texas Department of State Health Service, 68,357 Hays County residents are fully vaccinated against the disease 37.28%. Additionally, 96,153 residents have received at least one dose, 52.43% of eligible Hays County citizens. The DSHS estimates that Hays County has a population of 183,380 who are 16 years or older.  Additionally, 86.4% of residents who are 65 years or older have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine, while 72.6% in the same age group are fully vaccinated, according to the DSHS.

As the COVID-19 vaccine supply increases and most Texans eager to be vaccinated have at least received their first shot, we have heard from many of you that weekly demand for vaccine appointments has decreased, Texas Department of State Health Service Commissioner Dr. John Hellerstedt wrote. While there are still many Texans willing to be vaccinated, that demand is shifting from large, mass vaccination sites to smaller, more convenient sites where Texans routinely receive medical care.
