The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles is reminding Texans that they have until April 14 to ensure their vehicles are registered.
According to the department, the temporary waiver granting the suspension of on-time registration renewal ends on April 14, 2021, which means you must renew your vehicle’s registration on or before April 14.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) The Covid-related waiver on expiration dates for driver licenses and identification cards, as well as vehicle title and registration, is expiring next week in Texas.
The waiver was implemented in March of last year by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott due to the pandemic. The waiver will be lifted on April 14 with no grace period. There is no grace period, so after 11:59 p.m. on April 14th, you could be subject to getting pulled over and issued a citation by law enforcement for driving with an invalid registration, said Adam Shaivitz, the public information officer for the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. If you re pulled over and issued a citation for not having a valid registration, that penalty could be up to $200.
One silver lining from the COVID-19 pandemic is coming to an end April 14: Waivers for vehicle title and registration requirements in Texas.
Gov. Greg Abbott initially placed a waiver in March 2020 to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and reduce in-person contact. By suspending these rules, Texans can avoid unnecessary crowds and in-person contact without fear of being penalized, Abbott said in a news release in last year. We encourage all Texans to continue practicing social distancing and to take preventative actions to protect their health and the health of those around them.
The expiring waiver covers initial vehicle registration, vehicle registration renewal, vehicle titling, renewal of permanent disable parking placards and 30-day temporary permits.
