The coronavirus pandemic shut the world down in March 2020 and the ensuing 14 months have not been easy. Beyond COVID-19 anxiety, isolation and economic devastation, we’ve weathered a divisive presidential election, police killings across the country that galvanized a civil rights movement and a winter storm that left thousands of Texans shivering in their homes for days.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and if you are struggling, Patsy Dolan Bouressa, executive director of the SIMS Foundation, wants you to know you’re not alone.
“I think the biggest thing that people should know is we are actually in the middle of a mental health crisis,” Dolan Bouressa said during a recent episode of Austin360’s streaming show, the Monday Music Mashup.

Fifteen years after they first became eligible, the Go-Go’s will join the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame this year. They will enter the Cleveland-based museum’s roster of honorees on Oct. 30 alongside a venerable class that includes Tina Turner, Jay-Z, Carole King and the Foo Fighters.
“It s wonderful to have this honor of being inducted,” the band’s bassist, Kathy Valentine, said late Wednesday. Valentine was feeling elated but exhausted after a day spent responding to a barrage of messages and comments from well wishers. “It s kind of a crowning achievement to a career that started right here in Austin, in the clubs here.”

Nashville record label Dualtone is celebrating 20 years with a new compilation album, Amerikinda, that features past and present artists from the storied indie s roster covering each other s songs.
Austin s Wild Child opens the album with a haunting cover of My Favorite Picture of You, the title track off Clark s Grammy-winning 2013 album.
Though she s always known he s a badass singer Kelsey Wilson said she had never let (Clark s) songs marinade enough to soak in; and this was a big oversight. Guy s lyrics in particular are pretty special, she said. He has an innate ability to find beauty in the small details of life and with all great songwriters offers a unique insight on what those moments mean, and it s beautiful. My Favorite Picture of You is about a literal snapshot memory of his pissed off wife leaving his house while Townes Van Zandt and him were skunked drunk and she had enough of their (expletive). He was able to take his own snaps

The Continental Club has been rocking South Austin since 1955. Its weekly residencies nurture young talent and provide a steady stream of income to some of the city s top singer-songwriters. The club helped launch the career of Austin rock and blues great Gary Clark Jr. and has hosted pop up shows by everyone from Billy Gibbons to Robert Plant. The storied venue has been closed since March 2020, when it shuttered because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Fans of the Continental rejoiced on Wednesday when a Facebook post to the club s account announced plans to return on May 28.
Along with the Continental Club proper, sister venues C-Boys and the Continental Gallery also will be reopening, club owner Steve Wertheimer said in a comment on the post.
