Beginning Monday, April 12, motorists can expect lane closures at Route 1 and Cave Neck Road, as Delaware Department of Transportation contractor George & Lynch begins a project to improve safety at the busy intersection.
According to DelDOT Community Relations Officer Kathryn Beasley, crews will work to extend the Route 1 northbound left-turn lane to Cave Neck Road. They will also extend the Route 1 southbound left turn lane for the crossover just south of Cave Neck Road. Crews will also replace the plastic pylons in the Route 1/Cave Neck crossover with a concrete island.

The spring season is a busy season for the Delaware Department of Transportation.
While many large, high-profile projects get attention, crews are also working throughout Sussex County repaving sections of smaller roads.
Matt Schlitter, South District assistant maintenance manager for DelDOT, said how, why and when the state chooses to resurface a road is often a topic of conversation.
DelDOT uses a simple formula when choosing to resurface a road. If a roadway has fewer than 500 trips per day, it’s likely to receive tar-and-chip treatment. It all comes down to money.

Motorists traveling on Interstate 95 north, south of Airport Road, should expect heavy delays due to a wreck that has three lanes of the highway closed.
The Delaware Department of Transportation tweeted just before 3 p.m. that all lanes were closed, but updated the alert about 25 minutes later to say that two left lanes had been reopened.
DelDOT said agency employees, police, firefighters and other emergency personnel are on scene. Backups stretch as far south as the Joe Biden Welcome Center.
Traffic cameras show almost standstill traffic on the interstate. DelDOT said is does not have an estimated time for when the wreck will be cleared.
