Rotary Club trips the Light Fantastic
March 10, 2021ALTON — A term analogous to the plight of theatrical lighting designer Dan Hopper, where the definition means to "dance nimbly or lightly or to move in a pattern to musical accompaniment," and because of Covid-19, has all but closed down the world of live entertainment as he joins the ranks of musicians, actors and performers now "dancing around" to find work.
This was the subject of his presentation via Zoom to the Alton, Barnstead, New Durham Centennial Rotary Club last Thursday.
"We were one of the first to feel the blow dealt us by Covid-19 where public events, film and video production all but came to a screeching halt and the requirements to wear a mask and maintain social distancing made it all but impossible for us to continue, and we'll most likely be one of the last fields to recover as well," he stated.

December 11, 2020ALTON — The guest speaker at the Alton Centennial Rotary Club's weekly Zoom meeting last week was 7870 Past District Governor, Chris Parkinson, who for the past 20 years has been the Team Leader for the Amigos ce Honduras project in Danli, Honduras.
Danli was devastated 20 years ago by Hurricane Mitch. It all but destroyed most of the homes,
water and sanitation systems, and schools there. Since then, Parkinson has lead teams with 20-30 member Rotarians, with some non-Rotarian volunteers, 29 times, to help rebuild Danli.
"We have three objectives" said Parkinson. "First is to rebuild and repair their schools, next to rebuild and make hurricane proof their water and sanitation systems, and third to bring with us medical teams with prescription drugs to help save and improve lives."
