DHAKA, Feb 22, 2021 (BSS) – Prime Minister and Awami League (AL) President Sheikh
Hasina today said the Bangalee nation had achieved everything including social, financial, cultural and political rights through the Language Movement.
“Language Movement was not only the movement to establish the rights of language,
rather it was a movement to achieve everything as the Bangalee nation,” she said.
She said this while presiding over a discussion marking the Shaheed Dibas and
International Mother Language Day organized by the AL at its central office at
Bangabandhu Avenue, joining virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence in the capital.

young students’ leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had raised the
demand to make Bangla as the state language.
“Bangabandhu’s contribution to the 1952 Language Movement remains
everlasting…the then young students’ leader, Sheikh Hasina, presented the
demand for making Bangla as the state language,” he said.
Hasan, also joint general secretary of Awami League, was talking to
reporters after paying homage, along with AL leaders and workers, to the
language movement martyrs at the Central Shaheed Minar here in the morning,
marking Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day.

Dhaka, Feb 21 (UNI) The supreme sacrifice of the language heroes on this day 69 years back is being remembered as people are paying glowing tributes to them at the altar of the Central Shaheed Minar since midnight while maintaining health guidelines.
High ranking dignitaries ranging from Military secretaries to the President and the Prime Minister got wreaths placed on their behalf at the Central Shaheed Minar at one minute past zero hours today.

Clad in black and white dresses especially traditional sharees and
panjabees people in thousands thronged the Central Shaheed Minar here since
midnight to pay their glowing tributes to the 1952 language martyrs by
placing wreaths and flowers at the altar of the monument.
Considering the prevailing COVID-19 situation and following the proper
hygiene rules, a maximum of five-member delegate from each organization and a
maximum of 2 persons at the individual level were allowed to lay wreaths at
the Shaheed Minar.

DHAKA, Feb 21, 2021 (BSS) â Seeking official recognition to Bangla language, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has made an appeal to the international community to include Bangla as an official language of the United Nations.
âWe urge the international community to use their good office to include Bangla as an official language of the United Nations side by side ensuring its use in higher education and apex court,â he said.
The minister made this appeal while talking to journalists after placing wreaths on behalf of the Awami League at the central Shahid Minar (Martyred Monument) here marking Saheed Dibash and the International Mother Language Day in the small hours of Sunday.
