Al Jazeera’s report causes harm to its credibility: Hasan

DHAKA, Feb 16, 2021 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the recent report of Al Jazeera caused harm to the TV channel as its credibility significantly declined in Bangladesh and its objectivity was made questionable around the world.
He came up with the remark while exchanging views with journalists at the conference room of the Information Ministry at the Secretariat here.
Hasan, also the Awami League joint general secretary, said after airing the report – ‘All the Prime Minister’s Men’ – the objectivity of Al Jazeera channel faced harsh question in Bangladesh and its credibility and acceptability decreased.

The two-month-long art exhibition, hosted by Gallery Cosmos, on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina concluded on Tuesday, with rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The group art exhibition titled “Sheikh Hasina: On the Right Side of History” painted an elaborate picture of her journey from a cheerful teenager to a mother figure to millions of Bangladeshis who inspires to strive towards a brighter future emerging out of the ethos of darkness.
On the concluding day of the exhibition, former Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique said the artists nicely depicted Sheikh Hasina’s expressions, gestures and postures to show how Bangabandhu’s daughter overcame various obstacles and challenges in her long political career.

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said on Sunday freedom and accountability both are the most crucial in the advancement of mass media.
“Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had formed the Press Council aiming to ensure independence of the mass media, so that, media can act properly as the mirror of the society,” he said, addressing a discussion at Press Council auditorium in the city.
The minister said the press council was formed so that media can refrain itself from publishing false and untrue information.
Bangladesh Press Council (BPC) organised the discussion marking the ‘Bangladesh Press Council Day’.

Hasan condoles death of journo Shaheen Reza Nur

DHAKA, Feb 13, 2021 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Shaheen Reza Nur, former executive editor of the daily Ittefaq and elder son of Shaheed journalist Sirajuddin Hossain.
In a condolence message, the minister said Shaheen had testified against war criminals. The leadership of Shaheen will ever be remembered in founding Projonmo Ekattor, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.
The minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Shaheen breathed his last at Vancouver General Hospital in Canada at 10.40am (Bangladesh time). He died of cancer at the age of 67.
