Strauss Group’s home water dispensers are found in 700,000 homes in Israel and abroad. That makes the Israeli company, best known for its dairy and other food products, very much a denizen of the old economy of manufacturing. But the line between companies like Strauss and high-tech has been fading in recent years.
In the case of water dispensers, Strauss has developed an app to operate them. Another technology it has developed enables the device to learn a family’s consumption habits and adjust itself accordingly. So, if they usually have their first cup of coffee at 7 A.M., the machine will start to boil water a few minutes beforehand.
MINISTER of Health Dr Jonas Chanda has warned citizens to be on guard during the long weekend by ensuring they adhere to COVID-19 guidelines as they attend social gatherings to avoid infection.
And Dr Chanda announced that the country has recorded 131 new COVID-19 cases out of 5,487 tests conducted and four deaths in the last 24 hours.
Speaking during a COVID-19 update, Thursday, Dr Chanda urged citizens to ensure they adhere to the laid down COVID-19 guidelines.
“As we head into this long Easter weekend, we anticipate a number of social gatherings. We wish to remind our people that these congregate settings are a conduit for super spread of COVID-19, as many people attend these events with poor adherence to the public health guidance. Despite the reduction in our case positivity, I wish to remind us all that the risk of infection remains high, particularly in congregate settings. Therefore, I wish to earnestly appeal to each and every Zambian to be on guard this long weekend. D

Zambia exceeds 19 mln mobile phone subscriptions in 2020, up 11% Wednesday 17 March 2021 | 10:20 CET | News The number of active mobile subscriptions in Zambia increased by 10.9 percent to 19.1 million on 31 December 2020 from 17.2 million on the same date in 2019, according to statistics from the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA). This reflects a mobile penetration rate of 106.81 percent. ZICTA said despite the disruptive effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on economic activity, total domestic incoming traffic on mobile telephone networks increased to 2.4 billion minutes from 2.1 billion minutes in 2019, up 12.2 percent.

The Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) has published its Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector annual market report for the year 2020, and many of its findings – and predictions – are positive.
Among the highlights are increased access to, and utilisation of, ICT services in Zambia, including what is described as ‘a marked increase’ in active mobile telephone subscriptions – from 17.2 million reported at the end of 2019 to 19.1 million subscriptions recorded at the end of 2020.
