Neil Nayyar, a 15-year-old Indian American multi-instrumentalist from Elk Grove, Calif., has been honored with the 2021 Mayorâs Volunteer Award in the art, culture and heritage category.
Due to the pandemic, the ceremony, attended by Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen, city officials and public, was held virtually.
âMy message to youth here and all over the world is to do volunteer work,â said Nayyar, who was nominated by Neena Khullar. âIt is really working towards making our community better.â
In bestowing the award upon Nayyar, 15, Singh-Allen noted his many accomplishments.
Nayyar, who can play as many as 107 instruments from all over the world, is the Assist Foundationâs youngest world record holder for the most instruments mastered by a single musician.

AUSTIN â Janis Murray and Dr. Carolyn Moore of Huntsville were each presented with awards during the Governorâs 2020-21 Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Awards program on Friday.Â
Murray received the TDCJ Employee Volunteer Award during the Governorâs 2020-2021 Criminal, while Moore was presented the Judy Burd Award from the Windham School District.
The awards were presented by Texas Board of Criminal Justice Chairman Patrick OâDaniel and TDCJ Executive Director Bryan Collier during an online ceremony.
âVolunteering is a responsibility that these recipients have embraced wholeheartedly and for that we are extremely grateful,â said OâDaniel.

Perham recognizes its community through a banquet and social event (Elizabeth Vierkant) I ve often said that working in Perham for me has been like being CEO of the town, but it is with about 100, 150 other CEOs, all doing their own leadership thing, all doing what they do best with great passion, recently retired attorney Dennis Happel said. Nobody alone can do this. Even a few people couldn t do this without the community really sharing that vision. . . . Every year, this event is kind of a love fest for Perham, and it should be.
