Community Defib Project in Hawkesbury
Hawkesbury community members are well known for doing many wonderful things for the area, and one of those people is Sophie Wills, who has been doing her best to make sure remote area residents have a better chance of survival if a sudden cardiac arrest occurs.
A Registered Paramedic and Rural Fire Service volunteer, Ms Wills is the founder and chairperson of the Community Defib Project, which has improved community access to defibrillation in Wisemans Ferry and surrounding areas. This has been achieved using a $35,000 NSW Government ‘My Community Project’ grant to kickstart the community-based public access defibrillation scheme.
The chances of survival for cardiac arrest drop by seven to 10 per cent for every minute that the victim is not resuscitated.
According to the Singapore Heart Foundation (SHF), around 3,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in Singapore every year.
With one-third of the casualties being women, SHF has unveiled a female cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) manikin vest to help save women s lives on National Life Saving Day (Jan. 17).

Female manikin vests to be distributed to 60 training centres
SHF will be distributing the female manikin vests to around 60 accredited CPR+AED (Automated External Defibrillator) training centres locally.
