Can you tell us how Teezo Touchdown came to be?
Teezo: By way of Southeast Texas. He’s what you would call a trial and error artist. My origin story came so in the moment that I didn’t really get to track it. But my timeline was really this: artist turn video director, turn artist.
When did you first start making music?
Teezo: Oh, music has been a part of my life since as long as I can remember. I think my first memory is music, so it’s always been there. In 2016 I decided to take it by the horns and really take this thing for what it is and just engulf myself in it. I was in school at the time because I thought it was what I was supposed to be doing, kind of something to tell my family on Thanksgiving when they ask what I’m up to, you know. But when they ask now I’m like: ‘I’m a full-time artist’.

There were plenty of reasons for celebration yesterday in Washington DC as Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States of America and Kamala Harris became the first woman, the first African American, and the first Asian American vice-president. In addition to kicking out one the bitter orange that is Donald Trump out of the White House, this power duo brought a much-needed new chapter to global politics as Biden professed: “Democracy has prevailed”.
While several traditional proceedings were skipped due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the inauguration brought some serious fashion (back) into the American capital, with many looks imbued with subtle messaging. Harris and former first lady Michelle Obama went for monochromatic purple and maroon respectively – a White House staple since the days of Jackie O, but, as fashion historian Shelby Ivey Christie noted, monochromatic dressing also has a significant role in Black history – from Sunday churc
He then set out to work immediately. Just hours after being sworn in, Biden signed 15 executive orders, many reversing the Trump administration’s hostile and deadly policies. Among his main focuses are the climate crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, and protections for LGBTQ+ people.
Though he wasn’t able to get to everything on his first day, Biden is expected to overturn some of Trump’s anti-abortion rules, including a policy that prohibits US funding for overseas groups providing abortions. The president is also predicted to restore federal funding to organisations like Planned Parenthood, once again expand the reach of the contraceptive coverage mandate (meaning private insurance plans must cover birth control), and end the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal programs from paying for abortions, penalising low-income people in need of a procedure.

COVID-19 might have curtailed endless plans, but one thing it can’t stamp out is creativity. With Milan and Paris Fashion Week currently taking place in the digital realm for the second time in less than a year – after fresh lockdowns put an end to a return to the IRL runway format – London is set to follow in early February, as designers including Art School, Charlotte Knowles, Supriya Lele and more debut what they’ve been working on across the course of the last six months.
Beyond the established capitals, Berlin is also hosting its own biannual fashion week right now. Alongside a series of IRL – but socially distanced, obvs – events, creative PR agency Reference Studios’ namesake festival is also making its return, after kicking off back in 2019.
