Distracted driving is becoming more of a problem now than ever before. According to the CDC, every day, about 8 people in the United States are killed in crashes that involve a distracted driver. Additionally, hundreds of thousands of Americans are injured in crashes involving a distracted driver each year. Local experts are urging you to put down your phones and focus on the road.

Road Work Ahead - Prepare for the unexpected

Expect the unexpected. You may not realize a tremendous amount of work takes place behind the scenes to ensure that whether driving in Virginia, Illinois or Utah, the roads, signs, pavement markings, curves and pretty much everything else about our driving experience remains consistent. The idea being that motorists should know what to expect, what to look for and how to “read the road.” Roadway construction zones change all those expectations. Roadwork is essential to keeping our transportation system working well, yet it can change a lot of normal road aspects and what motorists anticipate. Keep Idaho Hands-Free; Extra Patrols on the road looking for distracted drivers, including those using devices

MERIDIAN — April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The Idaho State Police are joining dozens of other Idaho law enforcement agencies in a statewide effort to remind Idahoans of the dangers of distracted driving. Beginning today and continuing through April 30, extra ISP patrols will be on the road in an effort to educate motorists and enforce Idaho’s distracted driving laws, particularly Idaho’s law that prohibits driving while using a cell phone.  “Any activity that takes your attention away from the road is defined as distracted driving, and it only takes a moment or two for a distraction to cause a serious injury crash,” said Lt. Chris Weadick of the Idaho State Police. “Whatever the temptation, the distraction just isn’t worth taking your eyes or your mind away from driving.”

9 & 10 News April 20, 2021 April is Distracted Driving Awareness month, and officers are cracking down on those who are texting and driving. “We’re just trying to bring awareness to basically put the phone down when you’re driving,” said Big Rapids Department of Public Safety Community Relations Officer William Sell Since 2010, Michigan law prohibits texting while driving. “Usually it’s something where we’ll see an offense occur, either running a red light or running a stop sign,” said Officer Sell. “Then when you go up and make contact with the driver, they’ll tell you, ‘Oh, I was on my phone’.”
