Deaths in truck crashes can be reduced if feds take these steps now, national safety board says

The independent federal government agency that investigates transportation crashes on Tuesday said limiting how fast trucks can go and installing braking systems to automatically stop trucks before crashing into the vehicle in front of them are among its 10 most wanted safety improvements for the next two years.
The National Transportation Safety Board included several long-standing recommendations designed to reduce crashes on the nation’s highways. NJ Advance Media reported that in January that 5,005 people died in truck crashes in 2019, up 36% over a decade, while safety solutions were ignored by the government and industry.

California Highway Patrol is teaming up with other organizations to bring attention to issues on the road.
CHP wants you to know that distracted driving is a big issue on our roads.
Data shows that more than 3,000 people died in crashes involving a distracted driver in 2019.
CHP also says distracted driving is a wide topic. Texting is a big issue while driving, but having pets and loud children in the car can also take a driver s attention away from the road.
North Carolina Agents Launch Distracted Driving Campaign April 7, 2021
The Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina (IIANC) have launched a campaign designed to inform and educate the driving public, especially parents and young drivers, about the peril of distracted driving, which according to the association, causes one in five of every car crash on the state’s roads each year.
To coincide with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) national Distracted Driving Awareness Month, IIANC will be working with independent insurance agents across the state to bring awareness to the peril of driving distracted throughout the month of April. IIANC it will focus on educating about distracted driving in all its forms, such as holding a phone while behind the wheel, grooming, horseplay with passengers, or even being overly tired when driving.
