ATRI seeking carriers’ insurance cost data to study impacts on trucking
The American Transportation Research Institute is in the process of collecting data to better understand the rising costs of trucking insurance and how those costs are ultimately impacting the industry’s overall operational costs. This research was identified as a top priority for the group in 2020.
ATRI is asking motor carriers to provide data through an online data collection form that will quantify changes in deductibles, excess insurance over minimum requirements, and how drivers and fleets are balancing insurance costs against rising risk levels. The research will be complementary to ATRI’s annual Operational Costs of Trucking but will provide more granular detail on one of the most volatile cost centers in the annual analysis.
Police Increase Patrols To Catch Dangerous Distracted Drivers
New York State Police and local law enforcement agencies are teaming up to make roads safer for drivers by participating in the national campaign: “U Drive. U Text. U Pay.” This campaign is designed to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving, which according to the Governor s Traffic Safety Committee is the number one cause of motor vehicle accidents in the state.

Maryland State Police, Allied Agencies Address Distracted Driving As Part Of Statewide Initiative

(PIKESVILLE, MD) – Maryland State Police issued hundreds of citations and warnings related to distracted driving violations as part of a statewide effort Thursday to combat the issue on Maryland roads.
The initiative was conducted in partnership with the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration’s (MDOT MVA) Highway Safety Office and AAA Mid-Atlantic as part of Distracted Driving Awareness Month. It was also part of MDOT MVA’s Highway Safety Office’s “Be the Focused Driver” effort, a sub-theme of the office’s new overarching “Be the Driver” highway safety campaign.
