The corporate press spent the better part of a year calling the lab leak theory a conspiracy because former President Donald Trump talked about it, according to Washington Post senior reporter Aaron Blake.
“Given everything we know about how Trump handled such things, caution and skepticism were invited. That (very much warranted) caution and skepticism spilled over into some oversimplification, particularly when it came to summarizing the often more circumspect reporting,” Blake wrote.
Blake said the Trump administration provided no evidence to back up its early claims that it had evidence showing COVID-19 originated from a lab in Wuhan.
One Killed, 14 Injured In Illegal South Carolina Concert Shooting
One teenager died and 14 people were injured when an unidentified gunman opened fire on an illegal concert in North Charleston, South Carolina, Saturday, an ABC affiliate reported.
Law enforcement officials suspect the involvement of multiple gunmen, though no suspects were identified and the motive remains unclear, ABC News 4 reported. An unnamed 14-year-old girl died of her injuries and several others were found suffering from gunshot wounds.
“Something happened here that should have never happened. They should have never been set up in the first place here,” North Charleston Police Chief Reggie Burgess said during a Sunday press conference. “That young girl lost her life and 14 other people got victimized.”

Wyoming Republican Rep. Liz Cheney defended election reform bills Republicans have introduced in states across the country, refusing to link them to former President Donald Trump’s false claims of a rigged election.
“I think everybody should want a situation and a system where people who ought to be able to vote and have the right to vote can vote, and people who don’t, shouldn’t,” Cheney told Axios on HBO Sunday evening.
Axios’ Jonathon Swan pushed back on Cheney, saying that it was not a coincidence that Republicans across the country introduced hundreds of bills in states like Georgia, Texas and Florida as Trump and his allies repeatedly said the election was stolen.
