Fowlerville school bond - Four things to know about the May 4 special election

Fowlerville Community School District is hoping to build a new elementary school and install air conditioning in existing buildings beginning next year.  The district hopes to do so with a $37.8 million bond proposal that goes before voters on May 4. School officials say the proposal will not increase property taxes.  Here are four things to know before the election. What improvements will be made if the bond proposal passes? Fowlerville Superintendent Wayne Roedel said there are multiple phases to the project. First, air conditioning would be installed in Kreeger Elementary and Fowlerville Junior High School. The district also plans to upgrade the electrical system in the high school to install air conditioning in a future bond proposal.

COVID-19 vaccine town hall Thursday for Gainesville, Alachua County

State and local health officials will host a virtual question-and-answer town hall meeting this week on COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. It s set for 6 p.m. Thursday over Zoom for about an hour, and anyone can attend. UF Health and the Florida Department of Health in Alachua County will host the event. Participants can submit questions ahead of time while registering online at the UF Health website event page, found on the calendar under the community and UF Health at Gainesville tabs, or enter them during the live discussion through the chat function, said Ken Garcia, UF Health spokesman and meeting moderator.

Annual Love, Chloe Crop, Craft and Quilt event continues in Salina

Several people who enjoy creating in their free time got together, many for the first time in over a year, and raised money for a good cause in the process. Friday and Saturday the Annual Love, Chloe Crop, Craft and Quilt event brought crafters from around the community to Trinity United Methodist Church, 901 Neal Ave. In its 13th year, the event is the longest-running active fundraiser for the Love, Chloe Foundation, which according to its website, has a mission  to provide hope for families facing a childhood cancer diagnoses with essential travel items, financial support and funding of ground-breaking childhood cancer research while raising awareness.
