Building the African-American community Emancipation Park was purchased for $800 in 1872 by a group of influential African Americans led by Reverend Jack Yates. The street leading to Emancipation Park was East Broadway, later renamed by the city to Dowling Street after Confederate hero Richard Dowling. Black-owned Businesses Did you know…After World War I, Dowling Street was a bustling business epicenter for African-Americans? From 1910 to 1930, the census recorded a colored population jump from 22,929 to 66,357. In that 20-year span, Black-owned businesses flourished up and down the historic Dowling Street. Community landmarks such as Yates High School, the Covington House, Wesley Chapel, and St. Nicholas were built either on or next to Dowling Street.

First Female Eagle Scouts From Mid-State; 4 From Boro Feb 01, 2021 at 08:22 pm by WGNS (NASHVILLE)  On Monday evening (2/1/2021) twenty-one young women from Middle Tennessee were recognized from the stage at the Grand Ole Opry House for being among the first females in the nation to reach Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Scouts BSA. Four of the new Eagles were members of Murfreesboro Troop 2019 at Trinity United Methodist Church. In fact, that group along with Troop 22 in Brentwood tied for first place in having the most Eagle Scouts. Former Ross County Commissioner Jim Caldwell died Tuesday

Jan 28, 2021 81-year-old former Ross County Commissioner Jim Caldwell died Tuesday evening at his home after an extended illness. His 40 years in that role made him the longest serving county commissioner in Ohio. He retired from it in 2016. Before then, he had served six years on Chillicothe Council, as well as founding his own accounting firm. Following the private funeral service at Ware Funeral Home, which will be livestreamed, a public graveside service will be about 2pm Saturday in St. Margaret Cemetery in Chillicothe. A celebration of life at Trinity United Methodist Church will be announced later.
