Adela M. Griffel, 97, of Fort Dodge, passed away Monday, January 25, 2021, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 30, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with Pastor L.J. Hartley officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Powhatan Township Cemetery near Plover. Memorials may be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Adela is survived by her children, Lynette Peterson, Douglas (Carol) Griffel; Brian Griffel, as well as her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son-in-law John Peterson, and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Clayton and Altavene Jones and Warren and Lillian Jones.

81-year-old former Ross County Commissioner Jim Caldwell died Tuesday evening at his home after an extended illness.
His 40 years in that role made him the longest serving county commissioner in Ohio. He retired from it in 2016. Before then, he had served six years on Chillicothe Council, as well as founding his own accounting firm.
Following the private funeral service at Ware Funeral Home, which will be livestreamed, a public graveside service will be about 2pm Saturday in St. Margaret Cemetery in Chillicothe. A celebration of life at Trinity United Methodist Church will be announced later.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - City officials announced that the COVID-19 Crisis Response Fund of the Greater Evansville Region has awarded the 12th round of allocations, granting more than $300,000 to 12 of the 13 nonprofit applicants.
In total, officials say the Response Fund has distributed more than $2.6 million to nonprofits in the five-county region who are responding to critical needs related to the pandemic and our region’s recovery.
Helen M. (Jones) Detra, 67, of Mifflin, passed away Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021, at Hershey Medical Center.
Born July 3, 1953 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth D. and Helen M. (Kauffman) Jones.
She is survived by two daughters, Lesa Kramer and husband, Joe, and Catheanne L. Long and husband, Joseph, all of Mifflin, one sister, Kathy R. Bohince and husband, Richard, of Newport News, Va., five grandchildren, Autumn Young, Joseph Long, Joseph Kramer, Jr., Elizabeth Long, and Bradley Long, one great-granddaughter, Emma Young, one niece, Jessica E. Bohince, and one nephew, Richard Bohince.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Brendan Young, Bethany Elizabeth Love, and Sarah Long and one son-in-law, David Young.
MCCORMICK — After more than 40 years of work in business and government, Thessa Smith has retired. Although, she intends to continue ministering to her community.
