(WTOC) - The coronavirus is changing the way people celebrate the holidays this year, and that includes how they worship on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Several Savannah churches will still offer some type of Christmas Eve service. However, it may be different from what families are used to. Pastors say the coronavirus won’t stop them from holding their usual Christmas Eve services, but it is forcing them to change the way they worship.

Tiny homes village being planned in the Chippewa Valley

CHRIS VETTER Eau Claire Leader-Telegram When Mike Cohoon began working on plans for tiny homes — portable homeless shelters — he envisioned a long-term plan of creating the “Hope Village,” bringing the tiny homes into one central location, which would also include a permanent building that features showers and bathrooms. That plan is moving closer to reality. Cohoon, a pastor at Landmark Christian Church in Lake Hallie, said his group is planning to purchase a former dental office at 1825 Kennedy Road on the East Hill of Chippewa Falls. The tiny homes would be placed behind the 2,000-square-foot building, with the dental offices gutted and renovated.

Beaver Dam churches celebrate a COVID Christmas

Area churches have already planned ahead to avoid the dangers of gathering during the COVID-19 pandemic. Each has a plan to prevent or minimize the chance of disease spread. In each church social distancing, in some cases limited singing and virtual sharing, are steps being taken toward that end. Each pastor recently spoke of the challenges ahead, and what each congregation is doing to offer safe celebrations on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Visitors can check other church websites for for service times and limitations. St. Katharine Drexel Catholic ChurchAt St. Katharine Drexel Church, 511 S. Spring St., services are planned for Christmas Eve: at 3 (which will be live streamed and can be watched later on Facebook and YouTube), 5 and 11 p.m. A Spanish Mass will be held at 7 p.m.
