The Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruppur will hold an inquiry on the alleged accidental swapping of the bodies of two patients who died of COVID-19 at the hospital on Tuesday.
According to police sources privy to the development, the relatives of an 83-year-old man from Tiruppur who died of COVID-19 at Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital on Tuesday faced a rude shock after unzipping the body bag at a crematorium in the city on Tuesday afternoon to find out that it was a different body. The relatives informed the Tiruppur South police, who conducted an inquiry along with Revenue Department officials at the hospital.

Tiruppur MP K. Subbarayan wrote to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday suggesting that the State government must appoint Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers in COVID-19 preventive measures to increase the number of healthcare workers. In the letter, he said that around 2,700 ASHA workers and their supervisors were currently present in the rural parts of the State, who could be appointed by the State government as nurses or in other positions as per their educational qualification on a permanent basis.

Tiruppur Amid the aggressive second wave of COVID-19 in the State, the Health Department recently detected a cluster of cases in Karaipudur village panchayat in Palladam Block of Tiruppur district, where over 70 residents have tested positive.
According to Block Medical Officer N. Sudarvizhi, a woman aged around 60, who sold milk to the residents of N.S.K. Nagar in the village panchayat, tested positive last week. This caused the Health Department to organise a camp at the locality for lifting the swab samples of around 100 residents as part of the contact tracing process. “Out of the 100 samples, 76 turned out to be positive on Monday,” she said.
