UNISON Scotland blasted the country’s national skills agency today for refusing to pilot a four-day week despite it being Scottish government policy.
The union said that Skills Development Scotland (SDS) has knocked back a proposal to trial the initiative which arose from last year’s pay deal.
A ballot of members had shown overwhelming support for the plan, Unison said, and the policy is backed by most political parties in Holyrood including the governing SNP.
As Scotland’s lead organisation for fair work, SDS is ideally placed to develop the policy, Unison said.
The union called for an urgent meeting with the Scottish government to discuss a way forward.
