1 June, 2021 Saint-Gobain employees have been donating their old, unused company and personal smartphones and laptop.
Smartphones were donated to Community Calling, a campaign run by environmental charity Hubbub, supported by mobile phone operator O2, that aims to support seven million people in the UK who do not have internet access, while tackling the environmental impact of electronic waste.
Staff have also been upcycling old laptops and ensuring any components that cannot be re-used or upcycled are disposed of responsibly, following the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive.
This commitment to the environment and community is part of Saint-Gobain’s ambition to Make the World a Better Home , to be net zero carbon by 2050 and meet interim 2030 targets validated by the Science Based Initiative. Roadmaps are being developed by each of the UK and Ireland businesses to achieve this goal.
Jewson Partnership Solutions joins forces with YouthBuild 5 May, 2021 SHARE Jewson Partnership Solutions brand, part of the Saint-Gobain group, has announced a new collaboration with YouthBuild designed to get more young people into construction.
The partnership will see the creation of a property-maintenance social enterprise that will work with housing associations to maintain the properties in their portfolios. The initiative is an extension of the partnership between Saint-Gobain UK, Barnardo’s and Youthbuild, that has led to the creation of the Future Place Academy in Lewisham, and has for a number of years been supporting young people to develop new skills and transition into employment.
4 May, 2021 SHARE To support their commitment to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050, Saint-Gobain has established two new carbon funds that will support initiatives and activities that reduce emissions.
The funds aim to accelerate the reduction of non-industrial CO
2 emissions through everyday actions of employees and targeted investments on sites. The investments will mainly cover areas related to sustainable employee mobility, renewable energy, and improving wellbeing and energy efficiency at Saint-Gobain sites.
The fund is based on the Group s internal carbon price for investment decisions, which was recently raised to €50/ton of CO
2 equivalent. Reductions in CO
2 emissions will be converted into money to finance projects which themselves aim to reduce the Group s carbon footprint, thus creating a virtuous circle.
