Opinion: Let s stop spreading misinformation about Marion s Sewer issues

Jan 7, 2021 Editor’s note: This letter is in response to a Dec. 28 letter from Buzzards Bay Coalition President Mark Rasmussen regarding  claims from the Town of Marion over the projected cost of the lining of one of the lagoons at its wastewater treatment plant. The Buzzards Bay Coalition sued the town in 2018 for an alleged violation of the Massachusetts Clean Water Act, saying that nitrogen was reportedly leaking from the lagoons and into the nearby Aucoot Cove. The town denies this claim. The case was dropped in 2019 after the town entered into an agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Environmental Protection to line one of the three lagoons.

Oil tank maintenance key during winter

Keeping home heating oil systems in good condition is important, especially during the winter months. Thomas Martin, chairman of the board of Martin Oil Co., said that customers should have maintenance done on their tanks before winter. “Most people refuel their tanks in August or September, when the price of oil is typically the cheapest,” he said. “People usually discover problems with their furnace or oil tanks then but issues can come up during the winter.” There typically is little maintenance done to oil tanks, but it is important to make sure that a furnace or oil tank has a working filter on it.

Scituate to probe nightly wind turbine shutdown possibilities

141 views Source:  The Patriot Ledger SCITUATE Scituate will ask the company that owns the wind turbine on Driftway if they can cut down on the amount of time it runs after eight years of complaints from residents living hundreds of feet from the 262-foot tall turbine. After a two-hour meeting Tuesday night, members of the board of selectmen agreed they should ask Scituate Wind LLC to calculate the costs to the town of shutting down the turbine when the wind blows from the west and for up to eight hours every night. While select board members disagreed on issues over speed and timing, they all agreed the turbine needs to be stopped from running when it casts a shadow over nearby residences, causing a flicker effect.

Livermore officials will erect winter use signs at Brettuns Pond town beach

A pair of kayakers paddle around Brettuns Pond in Livermore on a warm and sunny Wednesday afternoon. Russ Dillingham/Sun Journal LIVERMORE Selectpersons on Tuesday night agreed signs listing winter rules should be erected at the Brettuns Pond town beach area. “Over the past seven or eight years during ice fishing there’d be a road plowed out to go across the pond,” Selectperson Brett Deyling said. “At some point, the rocks were moved to get shacks off the pond.” As soon as the ice is thick enough to walk on, that area is being kept plowed all winter long, he said.
