Thousands of small businesses queue up for chance at $10 million in pandemic relief funds from state

Thousands of small business owners lined up virtually Tuesday for a slice of a $10 million pot of coronavirus pandemic relief grants from the state. While applicants said they are grateful for any help, some were frustrated by the process. Aubrey Martinson is one of thousands who attempted to apply for up to $15,000 in Pure Michigan Small Business Relief Initiative funds. Martinson, who co-owns the Chelsea Alehouse Brewery with her husband, Chris, said she made it a priority to be ready to submit an application as early as possible Tuesday. At 9 a.m., Martinson found there were 1,521 hopefuls in line ahead of her. She was eventually able to submit her application.

Small Businesses Impacted by COVID-19 Apply for CARES Act Funding December 15, 2020 Starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, small businesses all over the state could start applying for grants from the Pure Michigan Small Business Relief Initiative. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation program is using $10 million in federal CARES Act funding to provide up to $15,000 grants to small businesses. The goal is to provide relief for businesses like restaurants, bars and others affected by the state’s COVID-19 restrictions. The Bearded Dogg Lounge in Gaylord applied for the grant, they saw firsthand just how high of a demand there is for this relief.

Starting today, small businesses can apply for up to $15K in COVID relief grants

CADILLAC — A program administered by the state of Michigan has allocated nearly $2 million in grants for small businesses in this part of Michigan. According to a press release issued by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation on Monday, Michigan’s small businesses that have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 virus will be able to apply for grants of up to $15,000 through the Pure Michigan Small Business Relief Initiative beginning at 9 a.m. today.  The program will utilize $10 million in federal U.S. Housing and Urban Development CARES Act funding to provide economic assistance to small businesses across Michigan. Region 2, which includes Wexford and Missaukee counties, along with eight other counties in the area, will receive $500,000; and Region 4, which includes Osceola and Lake counties, along with 11 other counties, will receive $1.3 million.
