AJ shorts in the third place winner in the 13th annual Stop the Hate Youth Speak Out contest, hosted by the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, awards $100,000 to 25 students in sixth-12th grades in 12 Northeast Ohio counties. The competition is rooted in the Jewish value of respect for all humanity.

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio No one in this world makes it very far on their own. Having been a mother, and having had a very attentive mother (one who also knew when to step back), I know that I am just a sample of one.
But interdependence in all things is key to understanding how much we need others in our lives and how much they need us. A friend of mine, a minister, once observed at Notre Dame College, on the lawn on a hot day, how my son Andrew would run and enjoy freedom, but he would periodically turn his head to make sure I was still there and still attentive to him. Andy was about 5 then, and I thought the minister’s observation was astute.
